’Tis the season to end your marriage. For celebrities, summer breakup announcements can also relate to their work life.
Susan Winter, author of “Allowing Magnificence: Living the Expanded Version of Your Life,” says that the warmer-weather months are the perfect time for stars to clean their slates ahead of the fall.
“Even though we’re not going to school in September, people tend to think that way,” says Winter. “This was all worked out months in advance. All the handlers got their statements prepared, because they want to move on to fall projects and get the whole thing finalized.”
Celebrity couples have been dropping like flies lately. Over the past month, high-profile pairs like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale and, now — shockingly — Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have called it quits.
What’s the matter, famous spouses? Heat got you down?
“The warmth makes feel people looser, sexier, more liberated. They’re wearing less clothes!” says Dr. Gilda Carle, author of “Don’t Bet on the Prince! How To Have the Man You Want by Betting on Yourself.” She believes that the freedom afforded by shorts, T-shirts and a seasonal suntan makes people more willing to take the risk.
“Here’s the deal. In wintertime, people are cold and on their own and in their homes,” adds Carle. In the summer, she says, people go out and assert their independence: They stroll around, staring enviously at happy couples, all the while thinking, “This is not working. This is the time for me to leave in order to get my life back on track.”

Sussman, author of “The Breakup Bible.” “They figure to split up over the summer is easier on the kids, so [they’ll] have the whole summer to adjust.”
Affleck and Garner have three young children together, as do Stefani and Rossdale. The latter couple’s youngest son is just 1 year old. “It’s very hard for the kid to go to school and tell their classmates, ‘My parents are getting divorced,’ ” adds Sussman.
“Fall is new beginnings,” added Susan Winter.
